November 27, 2017 – I have never been the type of person who goes shopping as soon as the stores open on Black Friday (technically Thanksgiving now) so I was definitely in for a shock this year. [Disclaimer: I am still not that type of person, however, circumstances changed things this year] For Black Friday 2017, I was one of the bright-eyed and bushy-tailed sales associates that sacrificed their sleep for other peoples bargains. Because I was scheduled to work an eight and a half hour shift in the wee hours of the morning, I needed to find something comfortable yet fashionable to get me through the overnight shift. Every year, J. Crew Factory has a “themed” Black Friday to make it festive and fun. This year our “theme” was flannels. I did not want to go with the cop-out outfit of jeans, a flannel, and some sort of boot. While yes that would have been very easy, I wanted to challenge myself. This outfit was the result!
The goal of this outfit was to add a certain girly flair to an otherwise Lumberjack-esque outfit. The flannel I wore was obviously the centerpiece of this out and the rest of my pieces just fell into place from there. The flannel I wore was the J. Crew Factory Mens Slim Plaid Flannel Shirt in Indigo White [link at bottom of post]. The first piece I added to my outfit was the red statement earrings. Like I stated previously, I wanted my outfit to stand out and what makes an outfit stand out more than red earrings, red lips, and a red belt? These earrings are yet another new item that I purchased at J. Crew Factory. They are the Beaded Orb Dangle Earrings in Brilliant Zinnia [link at bottom of post]. And once again, these earrings were a piece that I instantly fell in love with. The red immediately caught my eye and I started running different pairings in my head with various items in my closet. These earrings bring out my fun, flirty, and sassy side and they were a hit with tired customers throughout the morning hours.
Once I had my second pop of color down for this outfit it was time to find a neutral piece to wear under my flannel. That is where my FAVORITE oversized sweater came into play. Y’all have read about my love of this sweater many times before and by now, y’all can tell how truly versatile this sweater is. I’ve worn it with high-waisted jeans, low rise jeans, sidewalk skirts, plaid skirts, tucked into bottoms, left out, etc. So I’ll save y’all from my repetition. All I will say is this sweater is AMAZING! Everyone needs an oversized sweater in their wardrobe and the J. Crew Factory V-neck pullover sweater in Vintage Champagne is mine [link at bottom of post]. Along with my favorite sweater, I wore one of my favorite pairs of jeans. Surprise Surprise! They are also from J. Crew Factory. Additionally, they were featured in my “Pop of Color” blog post. They are the best pair of medium to dark wash high-waisted jeans and everyone knows how much I love J. Crew Factory jeans. I definitely recommend them to anyone and everyone. If I can remain comfortable in high-waisted jeans throughout the night, you can wear them anywhere and for any occasion [link at bottom of post].
The last items that completed my Lumberjack-esque outfit were my socks and boots. Don’t be too surprise people, BUT my socks are from none other than J. Crew Factory. They are the Women’s Camp Socks in Stop Sign Red [link at bottom of post]. I love the J. Crew Factory Womens Camp Socks. So much so that I own them in every single color except the Forrest Green, but I will probably own that color soon. They are so warm and comfortable. My feet get cold EXTREMELY EASILY, so I am always looking for socks that allow my feet and toes to stay warm during the cold winter months. These socks do just that. They keep my feet extra warm especially when worn with my Women’s 8″ L.L. Bean Boots [link at bottom of post]. Bean Boots are my go-to casual shoe for the winter months. They pair amazingly with leggings and jeans and they keep my little toes snug as a bug in a rug (as my mum used to say). Everyone in my family (except my mum) own Bean Boots and I swear by them.
When putting this outfit together, I was a little worried that I would look like a Lumberjack but I think I avoided that issue pretty well. While the outfit has “Lumberjack” aspects, like my flannel and the Bean Boots, I think that my pops of color and figure flattering sweater and high-waisted jean pairing make the outfit more girly and less “Lumberjack”. Plus, I think I make a very cute Lumber-Jill.
Until Next Time,
Emily Jane
