January 18, 2018 – So far so good on the blogging New Year’s resolution, two posts in two days. But once again, it’s another sick day for me. Today, thankfully, wasn’t nearly as bad as yesterday because I was able to find the energy to make myself look human again and spend the day out without feeling too terrible. I am a firm believer in the look good, feel good mentality. And that was 100% my mantra today. But man do I still feel crummy. Here’s to hoping that I wake up tomorrow feeling totally refreshed and back to normal.
Sitting in bed all day is fun for the first 24 hours but after that, you begin to feel useless and it gets really boring. You can only scan through the TV guide so many times before you have to admit to yourself that there really is nothing appealing on TV. You can only refresh your social media accounts so often before you have to accept that people have lives. And, you can only stare at your bedroom ceiling for so long before you acknowledge that yes there is a blob of paint on your ceiling that is a completely different color to the rest of it. Those three statements defined the past 48 hours in the life of Emily Jane. So obviously, y’all can tell that I’m living the dream.
Like I mentioned earlier in the post, I’m a firm believer in look good, feel good. So today I convinced myself that I had to feel good because I looked good (you can say otherwise but I’m gonna say you’re wrong because I’m not gonna let you kill my vibe). Honestly, I think the best part about today’s outfit was the fact that 90% of my outfit are pieces that I’ve had for at least a year (if not longer). So not only did I convince myself that I felt semi-human today, I also got to rock some oldies but goodies.
First on the list of wonderful oldies is my dupe Burberry scarf. My mum got me this scarf at least two years from DSW with one of the many coupons that they are constantly emailing out. That made this scarf ever better because the coupon made the scarf essentially free. You will come to learn that I’m a girl who loves a good bargain. As much as I love designer brands, my bank account does not. Because of my current financial standing and my current life stage, if I can find a something that looks designer but is a fraction of the price that is my jam. Maybe down the road, I’ll be able to afford the beautiful designer pricetags but right now the thought of me buying anything that expensive is laughable.
Second on the oldie but goodie list is my very sparkly necklace from J. Crew Factory that I bought about a year ago. This item is still fully stocked in stores and online (whew!) as it is one of the stores best-selling necklaces. I mean, who doesn’t love a little glitz and glamour hanging around their neck? And this necklace fulfills the glitz and glamour role perfectly. For you girls (and guys, I do not judge because sparkle is sparkle) out there who love this necklace as much as I do it is called the Layered Circle Necklace and the necklace is on sale right now (hint hint). Want to know what makes the necklace an even better deal? Buying the matching earrings that I’m wearing (even though you can’t see them). J. Crew Factory is having a sale right now and the more items you buy the bigger the discount you get with the code MOREPLZ. So go ahead and buy the Glimmer Circle Stud Earrings, so then you’ll be the most sparkly person in the room.
Third on the list of wonderful oldies is my Cream J. Crew Factory Teddie Sweater from 2014! Yep, you read that right 2014. This sweater is four years old and it still looks almost brand new. Teddie sweaters are an article of clothing that I swear by. They are perfect for a casual day running around, like today for me, or a day at the office with a pair of slacks or even a Sidewalk Skirt (y’all know those are my favorite). The sweaters are incredibly comfortable, breathable, and provide the perfect amount of warmth or breeze. I love love love the Teddie Sweater, and I am slowly collecting them in every color.
Fourth on the oldie but goodie list is my Dark Wine Everett Field Jacket from J. Crew Factory. This jacket most probably looks familiar because a couple months ago I did a post about the same jacket in a burnt orange color. Since then, I have acquired the same jacket in the Dark Wine color and I have the Mossy Brown in my sights (once I save some money). I love this jacket because, like the Teddie Sweater, it is thick enough to provide warmth on a warm winter day (like we had in Northern Virginia today) and it is thin enough to be the perfect jacket for the warmer fall and spring temperatures. I love pieces that are very season versatile. If I buy something that I can wear in 3 out of the 4 seasons, that is a win for me. If I buy something that I can wear year round, I feel like I am on top of the world. And I have a very strong feeling that I might feel like I’m on top of the world after this jacket purchase, but it could also just be a very big win…stay tuned to find out the results of this jacket.
Y’all have heard the spiel about my love for these Abercrombie & Fitch jeans many times before, so I’ll save you this time. If you need a refresher, check out any of my previous blogs to read up about just how much I really truly love these jeans because they’re really the best (oh, and Abercrombie is having a major clearance sale – happy shopping!).
The fifth and final item on my oldie but goodie list for today is my absolute favorite pair of pair of brown boots, that I just so happened to purchase at Nordstrom Rack because I really do love my bargains. These boots are the most comfortable pair of boots that I own and the inside lining of the boots literally looks like it is lined with pillows. They’re so plush and fluffy. To attest to how comfortable these boots are last January I WALKED from 91st Street on the Upper East Side in New York City down to Little Italy and my feet did not hurt after a day of walking nearly 100 blocks. After lots of google searching, I have FINALLY found the name of these boots. My favorite brown leather boots are the Andre Assous Women’s Roberta Waterproof boot and I have them in the Cognac Tumbled Leather. These boots are seriously the most amazing boots I have ever owned and when mine fall apart (which I hope they never do), it will be a very sad day for Emily Jane.
Today was a major stepping stone in overcoming the 2018 sickness, so tomorrow rosy nose or not I will again convince myself look good, feel good because I don’t think I can take another day spent in bed (even though I’m going to really enjoy crawling into my bed tonight).
Until Next Time,
Emily Jane
